Entering WRIT100

Welcome to My First WRIT100 Blog Post.

Gyselle Ferreira

Honestly having a positive attitude toward reading and writing is a struggle for me, I find it difficult to stay interested while reading and when writing I can never seem to think of enough to write about. The goal I hope to accomplish in this course is simply to be better at writing. The assessment and grading system for WRIT100 makes me feel more secure, I feel more secure because the system is there for me to succeed. Reading a variety of texts is a part of the learning outcomes in WRIT100, this worries me because reading is not my forte. However, identifying and analyzing strategies used by authors to persuade the audience is very interesting to me and may entice me to enjoy reading. Critical thinking and problem solving is the only essential skill that I'm both enthusiastic and anxious about. Problem-solving is easy for me if I do say so myself but creative and innovative thinking is not my biggest strength. Even though I am anxious about a few things I'm also very excited to grow and expand as a reader and writer. If I had more time to read/research any issue, I honestly don't know I'm interested in exploring all things. With there being so many different topics I find it difficult to even think of one, my mind just goes blank. Off the top of my head, I suppose an "issue" I would be interested to explore is climate change. I love the planet we live on but I'm worried about the earth and its current condition not being the best. Researching more on the topic of climate change would be interesting for me because I would like to get a better understanding of the cause of climate change and how I can help prevent it. To my knowledge, the future of climate change doesn't look very good and I would find it interesting to learn more about it. There is only one image that comes to mind when I think about reading and writing.

Even though Reading and writing are not strengths within my skill set I still enjoy them shockingly, you don't have to be good at something to like it. I'm truly excited about this class because I know it will be helpful for me to better my reading and writing skills, also from what I was told on the first day of this class it seemed more appealing to me than I had originally thought. To end this blog I'm entering WRIT100 with an open mind ready to learn.

This is a random update I would like to add... I'm sitting outside of Humber college waiting for my WRIT100 class to start, UGH it starts at 4:15, and it is 3:36, I'm VERY impatient. Anyways, while I'm sitting out here on this lovely bench I remembered this very blog post and the very basic answers I gave. I was thinking about what I would want to research more about, yes I'm still very interested in climate change. However, I would want to research more about communication, like communicating with people or strangers. It's not necessarily a world issue that we all have to deal with but it's something I'm interested in. I love communicating and talking with people but I'm not the best at it and can be shy at times. When I start talking I can't stop and I love having conversations. I would like to research more about communication, especially how I can use my words more wisely when talking with others. It's more of a personal issue I guess, the issue being that I struggle with my initial shyness. Random, I know, just wanted to add this to my blog post as an extra little thing. That's all.

Anyways...

Later :)

  1. I noticed in your post that you use some very good style features such as tone of voice and language. This stood out to me because while reading, I felt like I was able to get a glimpse of your personality, especially throughout your last paragraph. You mentioned that you’d love to learn more about communication and I’m curious to know what you would like to do after school (work wise)? You said that you enjoy talking to people and this interests me because I do too and personally my reason to be interested in communication is because I am going into the marketing field. I’d love to hear your plan! In future posts, I think you should continue keeping your paragraphs separated and maybe even try to add sub-headings above each one or break them up even more for each of your ideas. Overall, you seem like a very fun and interesting person and I’m excited to be in your class :)

  2. Hey Gyselle! I thought that your post was great and you did a good job at displaying your personality through your words. This made your blog easy to read. I'm also curious about your interest in communicating. Just specifically what about communicating are you interested in? Is it just communicating in general to people or communicating in a certain way or in certain scenarios as well. I've noticed that the blogs that are a little more spaced out with different sections along with some more images makes it a little easier to read. This can also be said for my own blog and something I'm looking to change in the next one. If you're ever looking to kill time before class I suggest the 3rd floor of the library on the northside. Find the couches and just chill. There's a great view and it's usually quiet.

  3. Gyselle, some things that stood out to me about your post were your honesty, vulnerability, and positive attitude, which make me trust and admire your character and want to read more from you as a writer. Your conversational style is ideal for a blog post.

I appreciate your humorous use of the picture! However, I was a little confused when I read that a sleeping person comes to mind when you think about reading and writing, considering that earlier in the same paragraph you said that you're very excited to grow and expand as a reader and writer and are interested in exploring all things. So, as a suggestion for future communication, you could work on connecting ideas logically and coherently throughout the piece as a whole.

Overall, I found your personality shone through and I enjoyed learning about you in this post!
